James Beard1st Vice PresidentMr. James Beard was born in Mobile, Alabama in November 1940. He has a brother who lives in Mississippi and a sister in California. His parents are deceased. Hazlehurst, Ms is now where he resides. James attended the Alabama School For The Blind located in Talladega, Alabama for most of his school years (1st through 12th grade). He graduated from there in May 1962. After graduation he moved to Pascagoula, Ms where he lived for some time before moving to Hazlehurst in October of 1967. James began working that same year at Royal Maid, which is now called L.C. Industries located in Hazlehurst. His responsibilities are that of assembler and floater. When he’s not busy assembling mops he’s relieving employees for their breaks or working in other areas when needed. When James isn’t working he enjoys long walks with his guide dog “Collin” which is his 3rd guide dog from Pilot Dog’s Inc located in Columbus, Ohio. He also enjoys music and recreational sports as well as spending time with friends. He’s a member of the Road Runner Club and The Lions Club. The Road Runner Club has activities such as picnics, visiting with families and going to different churches. He attends The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Hazlehurst, Ms James learned about the National Federation of the Blind in the early 70’s when the Mississippi State Affiliate was organized. He later became a member of the Hazlehurst Chapter after its organization in 1986. James is currently the 1st Vice President for the chapter. In addition to that position he has held the offices of secretary and recording secretary. He’s also on the fundraising committee. |
