Christine Burks

1st Board Member

Ms. Christine Burks was born in New York. She has a brother who lives in Colorado and a sister who is deceased. Her parents both live in Louisiana. She’s lived in several other places but Hazlehurst, Mississippi is now her permanent residence. She attended Washington Irving High School in New York.

While living in Louisiana Ms. Burks worked at Popeyes, Taco Bell, and a Doughnut shop as well as working on a dairy farm. In the 1980’s she moved to Hazlehurst to work at Royal Maid, which is now L.C. Industries. Ms. Burks returned to Louisiana for a while and a few years later returned to Mississippi.

When Ms. Burks isn’t busy working she enjoys watching TV, reading, spending time with friends, and many other activities. She’s a long time member of St. Martin’s Catholic Church. Ms. Burk’s beloved family members include a Rat Terrier named Chico, 2 cats (Snuggles and Topper) and recently adopted was Tweedy, a Quaker Parrot.

In the late 1980’s Ms. Burks learned about the National Federation of the Blind. She then joined the NFB of Ms and the Hazlehurst Chapter. Ms. Burks recently was elected as the 1st Board Member for the chapter. In the past she had held the position of secretary and Treasurer.

The NFBM is a 501(c)(3) organization. We are registered with the Mississippi Secretary of State for the purpose of soliciting funds as a non-profit organization. All of our officers are non-salaried individuals.

All tax deductible contributions should be made payable to the National Federation of the Blind of Mississippi. (NFBM) and mailed to P.O. Box 1515, Jackson, MS 39215-1515.
