Mrs. Gwendolyn Stokes-Byrd

Second Vice President

Mrs. Gwendolyn Stokes-Byrd was born in Clarksdale, Ms. Her parents and twin brother reside in Jackson, Ms. Mrs. Byrd and brother were raised in Utica, Ms. She met her husband Ronald J. Byrd while attending an NFB National Convention in Kentucky in 2002. They later married in 2004.and also reside in Jackson.

Mrs. Byrd attended the Mississippi School For The Blind in Jackson, Ms where she graduated from high school 1972. Moving forward Mrs. Byrd enrolled at Jackson State University and majored in Music Education. She received her Bachelors and graduated in 1976. Returning once again to Jackson State Mrs. Byrd received her Masters Degree this time in Rehabilitation Counseling graduating in 1979

Mrs. Byrd later became employed with the State of Mississippi’s Vocational Rehabilitation Services as a Rehabilitation Counselor and Teacher. She is now employed with the Mississippi School For The Blind and has been there for 5 years

Mrs. Byrd joined the NFB of Ms in 1977 and attended her first National Convention in 1983, which was held in Kansas City, Missouri. She currently serves as Second Vice President of the NFB of Ms state affiliate. She has also held several positions including: First Vice President (state level) State Board Member, Chair of Scholarship Committee, and President of the Jackson Chapter and numerous other positions.
