Ramon Holmes

Treasurer

Hi, let me introduce myself to you. I’m Ramon Holmes and I was born in Woodland, Mississippi in November of 1972. My parents, 2 brothers and 1 sister are still living there. In 1994 I moved to Tupelo, Ms where I continue to reside.

During my childhood in Woodland, Ms I attended the local elementary school named for its town. I later went on to attend the Mississippi School For The Blind located in Jackson, Ms. I graduated from there in 1993.

I’m currently employed with L.C. Industries in Tupelo, Ms I’ve been there for 12 years now and work on the assembly line. My responsibilities are to box items such as flatware, tissue paper, and mops.

When I’m not working I enjoy spending time with my friends and other activities such as bowling, movies and dining out. I’m also in the process of learning how to use my computer. I attend Hopewell Baptist Church where I’ve been a member since moving to Tupelo.

When moving to Tupelo in 1994 it was at that time that I learned about the National Federation Of The Blind. I soon became a member of its state affiliate (NFB of Ms) and the Tupelo Chapter. Today I continue to be an active member. I’m the treasurer for the Tupelo chapter, which is a position I’ve held for quite sometime, and I also was a board member on the state level as well. .

Since joining the NFB not only have I made numerous friends but I have learned so much from the organization and the members. It has taught me confidence and responsibility. I have more confidence in myself and in everything I do now then I had before. I’ve also learned to take on more responsibilities with more ease and no problems. I can tackle anything now. .

Because of what I have learned and continue to learn from the NFB I feel its my duty and responsibility to help educate fellow Mississippians (blind, newly blind or visually impaired) about the NFB so that they to can have more confidence in themselves and in their everyday life activities. It’s an awesome feeling! They should also be able to experience those feelings as well. Its great!
