Mary EvansVice PresidentI was born in Tupelo, Mississippi, a city located in Northeast Mississippi, and have lived there all of my life. I have one son and six grandchildren. At the age of 28, I was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa, and ten years later was totally blind. I attended the Addie McBride Center for the Blind for training. I am presently working as a contractional Braille instructor. I have been teaching Braille and abacus for the last 18 years; I travel over 800 miles per week, in 11 counties, in order to teach our blind children. I strongly feel that the children are the ones that will make the difference in changing what it means to be blind. This year, at our state convention I was presented the Distinguish Educator of Blind Persons Award for my outstanding and dedicated efforts to educate and motivate Blind Persons in Mississippi. I was also elected to the Board of Directors of Mississippi. I serve as the vice-president in the Tupelo Chapter of the local NFB and the vice-president of the local chapter of the Mississippi Organization of Parents of Blind Children (MOPBC). . |
