Sarah White

Ms. Sarah White was born and raised in West Point, Ms where she lived with her parents and two younger sisters. During her childhood she attended Piney Woods Country Life School located in Rankin County, Ms.

Ms. White completed high school while attending the Mississippi School For The Blind in Jackson, Ms. In 1964 Ms. White graduated from Alcorn State University where she received her degree in Elementary Education.

A year later Ms. White moved to Chicago, Illinois to live with her two sisters. While living there she was employed with the Chicago Lighthouse For The Blind as a switchboard operator until 1975. Ms. White returned to Mississippi where she accepted a teaching position at the Mississippi School For The Blind. She taught at the school from 1977 to 1984.

Ms. White later was employed at the Mississippi Industries For The Blind from 1985 to 2000. She has since then retired and enjoys her leisure time. She attends St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church and is a Sunday school teacher. Mrs. White was also a speaker for their Woman’s Day program three years ago.

Ms. White first joined the NFB of Ms in 1977 and attended her first National Convention in 1983 in Kansas City Missouri. She is currently serving as Treasurer for the NFB of Ms and is the President of the local chapter in Jackson.
