Mrs. Betty Ruth (Palmer) SterneTreasurer ElectMrs. Betty Ruth (Palmer) Sterne was born and reared in Grenada, Mississippi. There were eleven children in her family, 6 sons and five daughters. Mrs. Sterne was the 8th child of Percy Palmer and Mrs. Cora Cain Palmer. Mrs. Sterne was married to Alton Williams and she had one daughter, Janice Elaine, who has preceded her in death; and has one grandson, Ronald Williams, who now lives with her. She attended and graduated from the Grenada School District. She received a B.S. Degree in English from Jackson State University and her teacher’s license. She also did further Study at Ole Miss. Mrs. Sterne is currently a Retired Teacher of 39 years, two years of which was spent in Washington County, Mississippi. She retired in 1985 from the Upper Elementary Schools in the Grenada School District. She taught from about the 4th grade all the way through 12th grade. Her subjects were English and Reading. Mrs. Sterne is a member of the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church for almost 76 years; and is still an active member. She served on as many boards and offices as there were in her church; from church clerk to Chairman of the YPD, teacher of the Junior Class and now as one of the Deaconess Board members. She is still teaching today as a Junior Class Teacher at her church; and she is one of our Board Members at the Grenada Chapter of the NFB. |
